1. Throw out nonessential numbers.
This includes age, weight, and height.
Let the doctors worry about them. That is why you pay them.

2. Keep only cheerful friends.
The grouches pull you down.
(Keep this in mind if you are one of those grouches!)

3. Keep learning:
Learn more about the computer, crafts, gardening, whatever.
Never let the brain get idle.
"An idle mind is the devil's workshop."
And the devil's name is Alzheimer's!

4. Enjoy the simple things

5. Laugh often, long and loud. Laugh until you gasp for breath.
And if you have a friend who makes you laugh, spend lots and lots of time
with him or her!

6. The tears happen:
Endure, grieve, and move on.
The only person who is with us our entire life, is ourself.
LIVE while you are alive.

7. Surround yourself with what you love:
Whether it's family, pets, keepsakes, music, plants, hobbies, whatever.
Your home is your refuge.

8. Cherish your health:
If it is good, preserve it.
If it is unstable, improve it.
If it is beyond what you can improve, get help.

9. Don't take guilt trips.
Take a trip to the mall, even to a foreign country, but NOT to where the
guilt is

10. Tell the people you love that you love them, at every opportunity.

1. Your presence is a present to the world.

2. You're unique and one of a kind.

3. Your life can be what you want it to be.

4. Take the days just one at a time.

5. Count your blessings, not your troubles.

6. You'll make it through whatever comes along.

7. Within you are so many answers.

8. Understand, have courage, be strong.

9. Don't put limits on yourself.

10. So many dreams are waiting to be realized.

11. Decisions are too important to leave to chance.

12. Reach for your peak, your goal, and your prize.

13. Nothing wastes more energy than worrying.

14. The longer one carries a problem, the heavier it gets.

15. Don't take things too seriously.

16. Live a life of serenity, not a life of regrets.

17. Remember that a little love goes a long way.

18. Remember that a lot goes forever.

19. Remember that friendship is a wise investment.

20. Life's treasures are people -- together.

21. Realize that nothing is ever too late.

22. Do ordinary things in an extraordinary way.

23. Have health and hope and happiness.

24. Take the time to wish upon a star. ... And don't ever forget -- for even a day -- how very special you are.

Throughout each day you're constantly talking to yourself.
It's completely normal. We all do it. In fact we do it so
Much that our subconscious mind accepts what we say as
Truth. This acceptance forms the beliefs that we have of
Ourselves, and how we perceive that others see us.

If your talk is negative, your beliefs about yourself
Will be also. On the flip side, if your talk is positive
And empowering, so is the image and beliefs you have of
Yourself.

Take time today and tune in to how you're speaking to
Yourself, Identify precisely what beliefs you're forming
Based on your talk and bring them to mind. Question them,
Scrutinize them, and become familiar with what they are
Telling you.

The awareness gained by doing this is the first major step
Toward a positive life that will affect everything in your life.

If you haven’t got a job, how do you list experience on your resume? And if you haven’t got experience, how do you land a job?

Jasmeet has just finished an MBA from an Institute in Delhi. Each day he opens the appointment pages of the papers with a lot of hope, but closes them a disappointed man. He knows he can't do much about it: he just doesn't have the experience. But that's not something which should run him down.
Like the best of corporations that have been built from scratch, the best of careers can also begin from zilch. So what do you do if employers stonewall you simply because you do not have experience? After all, you have to begin somewhere. Give these hints a go if you’re a first time job seeker, ‘with no experience’.

PEG LOWER
If you have to take a job a peg lower than what you expect, take it. Just make sure the company you join has equity. That way whatever you do here will add to your portfolio. You can get ahead in time, even if you have to start lower.
A lot of people are disappointed in their jobs because their expectations were too high to begin with. You'll get to the job you want. But you can't skip the necessary steps that will take you there.
After a point, what you’re doing is as important as your qualifications. Get good remarks entered in your record book. It’ll all make up for your temporary compromise.
To guarantee that you make the most of your job interview, you should master the secrets of how to follow up after a job interview. Though most people assume that there is nothing that they can do to help their chances after the job interview is over, this is not exactly correct. For most positions, especially positions with multiple candidates, the decision to hire or not hire does not come immediately after the interview. Instead the hiring decision makers get together at some point, discuss the strengths and weaknesses of the various candidates and make a decision on who they hire. Sometimes, if there have been complications in the company, such as difficulty scheduling the discussion or confusion about budgets and projects, this conversation at the company may not happen for weeks or months.

You need to have a strong plan for how to follow up after a job interview because you do not want to simply disappear and wait around during the days, weeks or months before the company decision makers finally make their final hiring decision. During that time the company will be seeing other candidates. If you are not around or otherwise reminding the company of how good you are, those new candidates will be fresher on the decision maker's minds and get the job offer. For your job interview follow up strategy, the first stage is the thank you letter after the job interview. In this letter, you should tell the interviewer a number of items. First that you appreciate the interview, that you are still interested in the job, why you are a great fit, and that you are available for another interview whenever the interviewer would like.
More Follow Up After Job Interview Strategy

Additionally, your follow up after job interview letter should have an extra element that the other thank you letters the interviewer receives do not. A good addition is an informational gift. This is a piece of knowledge or information that you believe that the interviewer will appreciate based on your conversation with him or her. This could be a website, an attached article, a list of restaurant names or contact details for a person or organization the interviewer would appreciate getting to know. The letter should also let the interviewer know what he or she said to inspire you send this gift.

Adding the informational gift to the follow up after job interview letter accomplishes a couple of tasks. In the first place, it allows the interviewer to know that you are different from the other candidates and hopefully remember you positively. Second, it teaches the interviewer to read and value the communications that you send him or her. Most of the thank you letters that the interviewer receives are all about the candidate. What the candidate wants, why the candidate is a good fit, what the candidate wants to do next. By contrast, your letter is about yourself but also about the interviewer and what he or she would be interested in. When he or she receives this, he becomes more likely to read or pay attention to follow up communication from you. This is important because you will need to continue respectfully following up with the employer until you have either been hired or officially eliminated from the job consideration.

Few good lessons – to remember.

An Address by Azim Premji in the 'Shaping young Minds Program' (SYMP) organized by AIMA in collaboration with the Bombay Management Association (BMA) in Mumbai on 'My Lessons in Life'.

I am very happy to be here with you. It is always wonderful to be with young people. As my hair turned from black, to salt and pepper and finally salt without the pepper, I have begun to realize the importance of youth. At the same time, I have begun to truly appreciate some of the lessons I have learnt along the way. I hope you will find them useful when you plan your own career and life.

First

The first thing I have learnt is that we must always begin with our strengths. There is an imaginary story of a rabbit. The rabbit was enrolled in a rabbit school. like all rabbits, it could hop very well but could not swim. At the end of the year, the rabbit got high marks in hopping but failed in swimming. The parents were concerned. They said, 'Forget about hopping. you are, anyway good at it. Concentrate on swimming.' They sent the rabbit for tuitions in swimming. And guess what happened? The rabbit forgot how to hop! As for swimming, have you ever seen a rabbit swim? while it is important for us to know what we are not good at, we must also cherish what is good in us. That is because it is only our strengths that can give us the energy to correct our weaknesses.

Second

The second lesson I have learnt is that a rupee earned is of far more value than five found. My friend was sharing with me, the story of his eight year-old niece. She would always complain about the breakfast. The cook tried everything possible, but the child remained unhappy. Finally, my friend took the child to a supermarket and brought one of those ready-to-cook cereal packets. The child had to cut the packet and pour water in the dish. The child found the food to be absolutely delicious? The difference was that she had cooked it! In my own life, I have found that nothing gives as much satisfaction as earning our own rewards. In fact, what is gifted or inherited follows the old rule of 'come easy, go easy'. I guess we only know the value of what we have, if we have struggled to earn it.

Third

The third lesson I have learnt is, in Cricket, no one bats a hundred every time. Life has many challenges. you win some and lose some. You must enjoy winning. But do not let it go to the head. The moment it does, you are already on your way to failure. And if you do encounter failure along the way, treat it as an equally natural phenomenon. Don't beat yourself for it or anyone else for that matter! Accept it, look at your own share in the problem, learn from it and move on. The important thing is, when you lose, do not 'lose the lesson'.

Fourth

The fourth lesson I have learnt, is the importance of humility. Sometimes, when you get so much in life, you really start wondering, whether you deserve all of it. We have so much to be grateful for. Our parents, our teachers and our seniors, have done so much for us, that we can never repay them. Many people focus on the shortcomings, because obviously, no one can be perfect. But it is important to first acknowledge, what we have received. Nothing in life is permanent, but when a relationship ends, rather than becoming bitter, we must learn to savor the memory, of the good things, while they lasted.

Fifth

The fifth lesson I learnt is, that we must always strive for excellence. One way of achieving excellence, is by looking at those better than ourselves. Keep learning what they do differently. But excellence cannot be imposed from the outside. We must also feel the need from within. It must involve not only our mind, but also our heart and soul. Excellence is not an act, but a habit. I remember the inspiring lines of a poem, which says that your reach must always exceed your grasp. That is heaven on earth. ultimately, your only competition is yourself.

Sixth

The sixth lesson I have learnt is, never give up in the face of adversity. It comes on you, suddenly without warning.. Always keep in mind, that it is only the test of fire, that makes fine steel. A friend of mine shared this incident with me. his eight-year old daughter was struggling away at a jigsaw puzzle. She kept at it for hours but could not succeed. Finally, it went beyond her bedtime. My friend told her, "Look, why don't you just give up? I don't think you will complete it tonight. Look at it another day." The daughter looked with a strange look in her eyes, "But, dad, why should I give up? All the pieces are there! I have just got to put them together!" If we persevere long enough, we can put any problem into its perspective.

Seventh

The seventh lesson I have learnt is, that while you must be open to change, do not compromise on your values. Mahatma Gandhiji often said, "You must open the windows of your mind, but you must not be swept off your feet by the breeze." values like honesty, integrity, consideration and humility have survived for generations. At the end of the day, it is values that define a person more than the achievements. Do not be tempted by short cuts. The short cut can make you lose your way and end up becoming the longest way to the destination.

Final

And the final lesson I learnt is, that we must have faith in our own ideas even if everyone tells us that we are wrong. there was once a newspaper vendor who had a rude customer. Every morning, the Customer would walk by, refuse to return the greeting, grab the paper off the shelf and throw the money at the vendor. The vendor would pick up the money, smile politely and say, 'Thank you, Sir.' One day, the vendor's assistant asked him, "Why are you always so polite with him when he is so rude to you? Why don't you throw the newspaper at him when he comes back tomorrow?" The vendor smiled and replied, "He can't help being rude and I can't help being polite. Why should I let his rude behavior dictate my politeness? "

Don't ever stop dreaming your dreams;
they're a very essential part of you.
Do whatever you can to make them a
reality by the course you take,
the plans you make,
and all the things you do.
Don't dwell on past mistakes;
leave yesterday behind you ---
along with any of its problems,
worries, and doubts.
Do realize you can't change the past,
but just ahead is the future ---
and you can do something about that.
Don't try to accomplish everything at once;
life can be difficult enough ---
without adding frustration to the list.
Do travel one step at a time,
and reach for one goal at a time.
That's the way to find out
what real accomplishment is.
Don't be afraid to do the impossible,
even if others don't think you'll succeed.
Do remember that history is filled with
incredible accomplishments of those who
were foolish enough ..... to believe.
Don't forget that there are so many
things that are wonderful, rare,
and unique about you.
And do remember that if you can search
within and find a smile .....
That smile will always be a reflection
of the way people feel ..... about YOU!!
One-third of employers have seen clashes in the workplace about religion, and experts expect that number to rise. Training managers on ways to mediate conflicts as well as educating employees and supervisors on the issue is important.

Personal clashes about religion are not that uncommon in the workplace. Yet, most organizations do not have a policy addressing the issue.

That's according to a recent study by the Institute for Corporate Productivity (i4cp), which found that one-third of 278 employers surveyed worldwide have seen worker conflicts in the workplace linked to religion.

And even though personal friction over religious beliefs is not all that uncommon, nearly two-thirds of those companies say they do not have a written policy specifically addressing religious bias.

"I am definitely seeing more concerns, clashes and discrimination lawsuits surrounding religious issues in the workplace," says Joseph Beachboard, a partner in the Torrance, Calif., office of Ogletree Deakins.

"It's definitely more of a sensitive issue," he says. "People are also becoming more comfortable expressing religion at work."

At the same time, it seems clear many organizations are still unsure about how to handle religious differences at work, researchers say.

"Businesses must find ways to handle religious conflicts while allowing room for employees' spiritual needs," says Anne Lindberg, research analyst for the Seattle-based i4cp. "Effectively handling religious differences not only requires specific attention, but also creativity, empathy and fairness."

Georgette F. Bennett, president and founder of the Tanenbaum Center for Interreligious Understanding in New York, says she's not surprised that about 30 percent of surveyed employers reported religion-based clashes in their workplaces.

Such problems are going to get worse before they get better, she says. "The emergence of religion as a workplace issue is driven by powerful demographics that are not going abate any time soon.

"We can expect to see more of the types of clashes revealed by this [i4cp] survey -- until, that is, workplace training programs start to include the religious dimensions of diversity and until management starts to develop written policies on accommodation."
The job interview "tell me about yourself question" is the question that the interviewer asks when he or she doesn't know anything else to say. For instance, he or she might ask this question if he or she hasn't gotten a chance to look over your resume yet. While you tell him or her about yourself, he or she can cast an eye over it and learn enough about you to ask more substantive questions later. Alternatively, this question might come from an interviewer who is simply too disinterested, distracted or inexperienced to ask a more directed and useful question. As a candidate, you should recognize this question for what it is. It isn't a sincere, honest, interested way to learn more about you. it is a stalling device to allow the interviewer to get you talking immediately.

As a result, if you are asked the job interview tell me about yourself question, you should be ready to answer it in a way that immediately snaps the interviewer into attention to yourself. The simple, most effective way to do that is to answer it in a way that immediately makes it clear that you are the most qualified and perfect candidate for the job. Obviously, to do this you must first know what the target organization is looking for, and what the ideal candidate would look like. To create this profile, you must do the necessary research to discover what the duties of the job are, the results that the target job is expected to produce and the attributes or characteristics that the target organization values most. When you have those, you will in essence have created a profile of the perfect candidate.

Answering the Job Interview Tell Me About Yourself Question

When you hear the job interview tell me about yourself question, your answer should more or less be a summary of the ideal candidate profile. Additionally, you should be ready to back up all of your claims to the possession of the ideal characteristics through use of examples, narratives, stories and achievements. Chances are, once you begin telling the interviewer about yourself, and all the things you say are more or less what he or she is hoping to hear, he or she will start paying close attention. At that point, the questioning will get a bit more focused and specific. Instead of just asking to hear more about yourself in general, the interviewer will probably begin asking about specific experience and characteristics.
Life is filled with stress. Any disappointment or family dispute may generate stress or a mild degree of anxiety that results in muscle tension, body aches, insomnia and poor concentration. Routinely everyone has to endure worries and stress.

Changes in one’s life are mostly not threatening and they don’t affect the quality of life. Once stress starts it persists as the person is unable to get rid of it completely. Things can easily go wrong when people are under stress. Thus learning to relax will help them to deal with stress more confidently.

Mild degrees of stress may emerge in various situations of our daily life that may include a job interview, performing on stage or a critical test. These are only a few examples of the challenging situations when most people feel a little anxious which is considered normal if it does not result in any harm.

Stress generally responds well to both pharmacological and non-pharmacological treatment. The majority of people who receive treatment experience significant relief from their symptoms. But many people with stress disorders do not seek treatment because they do not recognize their symptoms as a sign of illness or they fear the reactions of co-workers, family members, or friends. Only a few people who are upset by stress learn to manage it through self-help while the majority of sufferers remain upset with the painful emotions.

People under stress are advised to relax. Most of them ask how they should relax. Relaxation is a state of doing absolutely nothing and being at ease and peace. Relaxation exercises are very simple and do not need expensive equipment or a special place. They may take time so people should not feel disheartened if they do not notice favourable changes.

Work Yourself to Success Feltham says, "The greatest results in life are usually attained by simple means and exercise of ordinary qualities. These may for the most part be summed up in two - common sense and perseverance." In other words, the surest way to succeed is to determine not to fail. There are other factors way to succeed is to determine not to fail. Success will remain a stranger to you if you play host to worries. You will never be able to concentrate on the job in hand. Worry will consume a lot of energy.

You will give only crumbs of your energy to your main task - of achieving success in life. A man engulfed in worries is like the engine of a car locked in the garage. The engine is running and consuming fuel. The car does not move an inch. The running engine fouls the atmosphere with poisonous gas. This is the case with the worrying man. He consumes energy. But he does not move an inch towards his goal.

Do away with the habit of 'thinking' too much or brooding. Make up your mind and then act. Action is the greatest antidote to worry, which is nothing but a sort of pessimistic inaction. Learn to control your thoughts. Never lose sight of the vital fact that worse seldom comes to worst. If you adopt these as your mottos, you will have taken a significant step towards success. Improve the quality of your work. The secret of success lies in first-rate performance. Slipshod and slovenly work brings failure. You cannot improve your performance if you look upon your work as drudgery. What you do is a part of yourself, an expression of what you stand for.

The way you perform your job reveals the inner man in you. Look upon your job, not as an unpleasant necessity, but as a means of expressing the best in you. William Hazlitt, the famous English writer, has written in his essay Indian Jugglers, "What have I been doing all my life? Have I been idle, or have I nothing to show for all my labour and pain? Is there one thing in which I can challenge competition, that I can bring as an instance of exact perfection in which others cannot find a flaw?" Repeat these questions to yourself, answer them honestly and find out whether you are successful or not in the real sense of the world.

Great men of the world who have achieved pinnacles of success were not freaks of nature. Success did not fall into their lap for heavens. They sweated for it. Tolstoy's name is often mentioned as a great writer. But few know that he wrote his manuscripts six times before sending them to the publisher. Samual Johnson was willing to turn over half a library in search of a single word. Nietzsche sometimes wrote his text fifteen times. Spencer remodeled his System of Philosophy five times. Little wonder they enjoyed success which all envy but few achieve. Hard work is the price of success. Your life is inextricably linked up with that of others. Rubbing shoulders with others comprises a major part of your life.

If you learn how to live harmoniously with others, you are going to add considerably to the chances of your success. In this respect bear in mind two basic points which cover most others: never speak ill of another if you can do without it. Always be generous in praise. If you have the habit of backbiting, try to curtail it by reminding yourself, "How shall I feel if someone were to speak of me like this?" If you have to criticize, use fine, cautious words. You have to criticize, not damage the reputation of the person. Be discreet and employ restraint.

Praise is the lubricant of life. It facilitates human relationships. It is the mark of a successful man that he does not withhold a compliment when it is due. However, be warned. If overdone, it becomes flattery which is the mark of knave. "We can do anything we want to do if you stick to it long enough," says Helen Keller and she should know. Simple virtues of tenacity willingness, readiness, alertness, courtesy and hard work will carry you further than mere smartness.

A successful business man was asked by a group of students the secret of his success. "I jump at opportunity." "And how do you know of opportunity?" "I keep jumping." There is no such thing in life as standing still. We are on the way up or the way down. We all possess a spark which can life us on to achievement, but this spark must be nourished into a flame by resolution to achieve your goal. A lazy boy did not discover the telephone. A lazy person did not learn how to control waters. A lazy person does not reach the moon as they are attempting now. Success is a matter of talent and opportunity but, much more, of concentration and perseverance.

When you have set the real goal before you, next step is to make adequate preparations for its achievements. Until and unless you acquire the necessary education, training or experience to give you the know-how you cannot achieve your goal. One who wants to be a doctor has to undergo training in a medical college, and one who wants to become an advocate has to study law. Since most of us go through life without a goal, without any purpose, without having any specific objective, we do not care to acquire specialised education. The result is that we live, a purposeless and aimless life. Now you can very well realise that those who succeeded not only had their cherished goal before them but they also developed the necessary qualifications for its achievement.

Every person who aspires to be successful first educates himself to be able to pursue his specific goal. However, education does not mean simply book learning but also the development of personality, leadership, sociability and a sensitivity to discriminate between the true and false values of life and the ability to imbibe those which lead to harmony and happiness.

You may have chosen your goal. You may have even planned out and prepared yourself with a view to achieving your goal. You may have good health too. Still you may not make any progress towards your goal because you may not have enough drive to work for your goal. Actually success is accomplishing something. It is activity in the right direction. The difference between an active and an inactive person is simply that the former gets what he wants and for the latter it remains as empty as ever. A half-hearted attempt, a luke-warm effort might take you a little way toward your goal, but it will never get you far enough to reach it. When the sportsman puts every ounce of his effort and will into the game, nine times out of ten, he is bound to win the race.

A person who puts a constant prod on himself and makes an all-out effort is more likely to succeed than the one who makes half-hearted attempts. One of the reasons why people do not rise above whatever job or work they may be doing is that they have no drive, no will to work. They do not make an all-out effort. They work leisurely, poke around, sit down and gossip, or simply do nothing. And there is no wonder if they do not make an outstanding progress. Without an all-out effort no one can hope to be successful. Not only an all-out effort is necessary for success, it is also vital that you should be able to maintain the tempo, keep the drive intact till the goal is achieved. There is the story of the gold prospector who bought a promising piece of rocky land and continuously for five years he mined the land. Everyday he would go down to deepen the tunnel he had made. But there was no sign of gold in sight. One day his patience gave in; his desire for gold became dead. He threw away his mining tools and sold his land to another prospector for a song.

The new prospector enlarged the mine only a few inches more and there he found a large seam of gold running through the rock! Had the first prospector persevered a little more, held on for a few inches more the would have surely found what he was after. "The majority of people are ready to throw their aims and purposes over-board, and give up at the first sign of opposition or misfortune. A few carry on despite all opposition, until they attain their goal," says Napoleon Hill. Thus for success it is not enough that you should have drive and stamina but persistence too. Persistence is the main force which sustains your drive and makes you go on working for your goal through thick and thin. The quality of persistence "is to the character of man what carbon is to steel.' In this world, everything perishes and will perish, but, ideas, ideals and dreams do not.
Once Buddha was travelling with a few of his followers. While they were passing a lake, Buddha told one of his disciples, "I am thirsty. Do get me some water from the lake."

The disciple walked up to the lake. At that moment, a bullock cart started crossing through the lake. As a result, the water became very muddy and turbid. The disciple thought, "How can I give this muddy water to Buddha to drink?"

So he came back and told Buddha, "The water in there is very muddy.

I don't think it is fit to drink."

After about half an hour, again Buddha asked the same disciple to go back to the lake.

The disciple went back, and found that the water was still muddy.

He returned and informed Buddha about the same.

After sometime, again Buddha asked the same disciple to go back.

This time, the disciple found the mud had settled down, and the water was clean and clear. So he collected some water in a pot and brought it to Buddha.

Buddha looked at the water, and then he looked up at the disciple and said," See what you did to make the water clean. You let it be, and the mud settled down on its own -- and you have clear water.

Your mind is like that too ! When it is disturbed, just let it be. Give it a little time. It will settle down on its own. You don't have to put in any effort to calm it down. It will happen. It is effortless."

Having 'Peace of Mind' is not a strenuous job; it is an effortless process!

Email was a differentiator at first (mid 90's). When you emailed your resume, you stood out from the crowd as "net savvy." By the late 90's, email became the "standard" way to reach someone.
Now, email is largely a nuisance unless someone is expecting a message from you.

So, what should you do?
1. Follow the employer's directions, if any are given.

If they specify a "receiving" address on the job posting or the Website, send your resume to that address. If they have specified what goes into the subject line of the message (like the job posting number), be sure to do that, too.
This isn't limiting your ability to do some "guerilla marketing" in addition to the following-the-rules process to help you stand out from the crowd. However, it is demonstrating that you are capable of following directions and have some respect for their processes. So follow the directions and also use your other approaches.

2. Don't use your current work e-mail address (if you are still employed) for sending your resume to a new employer.

This is a very good way to become unemployed (most employers monitor email traffic, so they'll see that resume go out)! And, it doesn't show a new employer that you are very loyal or respectful of your current employer. Doesn't make you a very appealing applicant.

3. Send a separate message to each potential employer. Even though it may be easy to do, don't do mass emailing.

Messages with multiple addressees are a sure way to trip a spam filter's alarm and very bad 'netiquette to boot. If you're not careful, it can reveal all the other employers you are courting and demonstrate that you are not willing to spend much effort on any of the employers listed.
In addition, a cookie-cutter message will not be focused on that specific opportunity (the requirements of the job, the employer's situation, etc.). So, it may not get through, and if it does get through, it won't be effective.

4. If possible, send your email on Tuesday or Wednesday.

The weekends, Mondays, Fridays, and late Thursdays are typically times with a high volume of spam, and your message may get lost in the junk.

5. Use plain text format.

If your email software lets you choose a font face, do bolding, and add a pretty background to your outgoing messages, you are using HTML email. Not good.
HTML email can trigger the spam filters and often looks different on someone else's computer, so use plain text. It's safer from both a technical and a usability perspective.
So, change the format of your email to plain text when you are sending out a resume or corresponding with an employer.
[With Outlook Express, be sure that the black dot is beside the words "plain text" when you look at the drop-down list under "Format" in the New Message window's toolbar.

6. Copy the plain text version of your resume into the body of your email.

Unless directions from the employer specify otherwise, this is the safest way to send a resume via email. You need to copy the plain text version of your resume - not the Word (or other word processing software) document.

7. Look for alternative ways to reach people.

Use the Internet to reach the employer, and then follow up offline.
For example, if you want to work in the sales department of a company, find the VP of Sales on the company Website, and then call the company to verify that the person is still there and still VP of Sales.
Once you know the name of the person in that key position, send a "beautiful resume"  via snail mail - NOT email. Your "beautiful resume" is the one in word processing format, with bullets and bolding and a fancy layout - designed to showcase you and your capabilities.
Of all the attributes that get you hired for a job, your job interview strengths are some of the few that you can directly improve in a short time frame. Your experience, your training, your qualifications, your characteristics are all pretty much set by the time that you go to your interview. However, the way that you effectively and convincingly package all these things together for the interviewer is something that you can get a lot better at in a hurry. Doing so, however, requires that you do quite a bit of work. The process requires that you do a minimum of four steps; research the position, predict the questions, develop the answers, practice the answers. Of these four, the research is the most important. Your ability to perform well in the interview depends largely on the information you put together up front.

Your job interview strengths are going to come from your detailed knowledge of what the company is looking for in the job interview. That knowledge, in turn, is going to come from your research of the target job and company. Some of that research will be of published material, other information will come from people in your network. All of it will be focused on what the job does, what results the job is expected to produce, what environment the employee produces these results in, and what characteristics the target organization prizes most in employees. Putting all this information together gives you a clear picture of the ideal employee. Once you have that picture, you are able to create both a list of predicted questions and a target for what impression your answers should create.
